Recreation In Metacomet Ridge

Metacomet Ridge has so many possibilities for recreation that it's almost unreal to some. In fact, since it's very close to some urban areas, it has actually become a premiere outdoor recreation spot for anyone who is close enough to reach it – and that's a lot of people. There's just so many things that you can do there. One of the most obvious activities that you can indulge in while in Metacomet Ridge is hiking.

Metacomet Ridge offers short trail and long trail hiking terrain for the hiking enthusiast in you, and more often than not, you will be able to take in some of the rare botanical and geographical wonders that are uniquely found in combination on the ridge while you are walking. You can do some snowshoeing on the trails, a bit of birdwatching and picnicking.

Apart from the hiking, there are also what they call “site-specific” activities; activities that rely on the exact area of the ridge to become viable. You can hike anywhere on the Metacomet Ridge, but there are specific spots where you can do some rock-climbing (on the cliff faces), some mountain biking, some fishing, some jogging, some boating, some swimming, and, to a certain extent and in some seasons, some skiing (back country and cross-country). It may not be that high, but Metacomet Ridge is more given to adventure than most other land forms with significantly higher altitudes.
